The thing that bugs me about these bundles is the fact that a lot of the applications that are offered in the bundle restrict or charge more for future updating of the applications. I have seen this on several web sites lately, Upgrade price:. (if you bought this as part of the bundle then you have to pay an additional ) Not always a big deal, but something to know about.

Word doc for mac. If you save $30 in Parallels this time around, but have to pay $50 more when it comes time to upgrade have you saved anything? I guess it also depends on how many of the apps are useful to you. Honestly this time around there's not a single app that does anything for my requirements. There is 'sitting on the fence' and waiting to see if Parallels will be unlocked, and there is just going ahead and getting the bundle now (if you want the other apps). Choosing the former might cause Parallels to not be unlocked simply because there is a 1000 people sitting on the fence.

Choosing the latter might cause a 'waterfall' effect where the rate of sales goes up exponentially because people see them going fast and will believe that the milestones will be met. How about some more discussion about the apps in this bundle? Have people found Leap useful? Has anyone used StoryMill? How does Typinator compare to Text Expander? Is Hazel useful?

Originally posted by Babblefish: How does one with.Mac get this basic account on VT? You know, this is very odd, but I can't find any references to the.Mac sub on VT or.Mac. At one point, it was front-page stuff. (I started with.Mac from the very beginning.) When I check my own VT account status, I see the following: which shows my old VT account which I paid for, and my.Mac account which is current.

And when I click on the.Mac link as shown above, I see this: So clearly my free VT account is open, and I have the option to renew it, yet I can't find anything about setting up new ones. Admittedly, I didn't dig as deep as I could have. Perhaps it was an offer that was rescinded at some point, but those who signed up at the time have been allowed to continue? It's quite obvious one of MU's sources of info is VT. I've submitted tipoffs to VT that MU picks up a short while later. VT has a more comprehensive database. MU's interface is more pleasing, probably because it doesn't have as many ads.

MU lets one save the updates directly with right-click 'Save as.' Where as with VT, you'd end up saving their 4kb redirect page. This makes a big difference when running into DMG files on braindead hosts that serve them as TXT and are the No. 1 culprit for beachballing Mozilla/Firefox! I totally missed the whole Christian ad controversy, probably because it happened before I knew MU existed.

So, I don't actually know how tasteless it was. However, it sounds like everyone blew it way out of proportion and I don't know why anyone would consider it now when deciding whether to use the service. I use MU over VT for one reason only: the lack of a page between clicking download link and download starting. It doesn't help that VT's redirect page is slow-loading and only exists to display more ads.
