Group activities give them the opportunity to work together to learn new skills and concepts. My Project With the implementation of the new Common Core State Standards coming quickly, I am looking for ways to bring more activity-based learning to my classroom. These books will help me find activities that engage my students and help them learn to love math. The bridge building set will help them understand how the triangle works as a fundamental structural integrity tool. We will test the bridges to see who has the strongest, safest structure. The clear plastic solids are used to demonstrate all the lengths that are used to find area, surface area, and volume. The strings can be moved to clearly show the altitude, slant height, radius and apothem of each figure.
Allowing students access to hands-on materials helps cement the concept in their minds for long-term learning. Kids learn better, and long-term memory is triggered, when lessons are interactive and student led.
