This release features support for many additional Canon inkjets, some Epson inkjets, and some dye sublimation printers, greatly upgraded support for many Epson Stylus Pro printers, and numerous bug fixes. Gutenprint will run on any reasonably modern computer running Linux, Macintosh OS X (10.3 or above), Solaris, or any other UNIX-like operating system. If you plan to compile this package from source, you will also need an ANSI C compiler, such as gcc (recommended).
A compiler is not required if you are installing a pre-compiled package. A package for Macintosh OS X will follow shortly. We advise Macintosh users to wait for that package rather than attempt to compile from source. Gutenprint 5.2.7 may be downloaded from.
Changes from 5.2.6 1) New printers supported in this release: Note that support for all printers marked 'EXPERIMENTAL' (untested) or 'PRELIMINARY' (minimally tested but untuned) is subject to change without notice. Printers not marked 'EXPERIMENTAL' generally will not change between releases, but notice will be given and if possible back compatibility will be provided.
A Mac OS X installer for Gutenprint 5.2.6 is now available for Mac OS X 10.3 and later. This release contains the enhancements and improvements as noted in the main 5.2.6 release notes. These changes from 5.2.5 include: 1. Support for 17 additional inkjet printers from Canon and Epson and support for over 100 additional PCL laser printers.
Fix printing to Epson Stylus S20, S21, T20, and T21. Adjust printer definitions of EPSON Stylus Pro 7800 and 9800 (to use Ultrachrome K3 rather than Ultrachrome inks and media definitions).
Adjust the printer definitions of the Epson Stylus Pro 7880, 9880, and 11880 to be consistent with new definition of 4880 and use Ultrachrome K3 w/Vivid Magenta ink. Correct printing on Epson Stylus Pro printers (x600, x800, and x880 series) to position images correctly on the page and to correctly cut the print in roll feed mode. Correct printer definitions of some Kyocera laser printers to specify tabloid-size (11.7x17) output. Correct printer definition of Canon ImageRunner 330s (large format). Add CD Allow Other Media Sizes option to Epson printers to permit printing to other media sizes when using third party trays. Correct the behavior of scan and page dry times for Epson Stylus Pro printers.
A Finnish translation has been added. Matt Broughton Only relatives are absolute. Welcome to Gutenprint 5.2.6, a stable release of Gutenprint 5.2. This release primarily features support for the Epson Stylus Pro 4880 thanks to Lutz Sammer and David Stone, but the changes for that printer may impact other printers. I'm also hoping that this will work for the Stylus Pro 3880 (and 3800) - those printers are entry level professional grade printers featuring 17' wide support at a reasonable price point. We would particularly like people to test the following:.
Epson Stylus Color: test black and white mode at all resolutions (use defaults for other settings). Epson Stylus Color 3000, Stylus Color 440: test black and white at resolutions 360x90, 180, 360x180, and 360 MicroWeave (360x90 isn't available on the SC3000). Also, test Quality settings of Fast Economy, Economy, and Draft. Epson Stylus Pro 7600, 7800, 7880, 9600, 9800, 9880, 11800, 11880: - Test for correct functionality and output in general at different resolutions. Test black and white with Ink Types of Three Color Composite, Four Color Standard, Five Color Photo Composite, and Six Color Photo. Test full bleed in both color and black and white mode, and specifically check horizontal positioning of the output with and without the patch. Epson Stylus Pro 3880: test that the printer functions correctly and produces good output using the Stylus Pro 4880 driver (obviously roll feed functionality won't work).

Lanier Ld160c Driver For Macbook Pro
It has a number of bug fixes over 5.2.2 that mostly affect CUPS internationalization and a number of Epson and Canon printers. It may be downloaded directly from.
Changes from 5.2.2 1) CUPS PPD files in non-English locales are now generated correctly when the CUPS driver interface is used (with CUPS 1.2 and above). 2) Epson inkjet printers that support duplex printing now use less restrictive margins (allowing use of more of the page) when duplex printing is not used. I have packaged the new Gutenprint release as distribution-independent LSB package now and uploaded it to OpenPrinting. The packages and instructions on how to install them you find on: The source RPM is here There are no source files for the Debian packages, as they are converted from the RPMs with alien.
The package can be installed without uninstalling the Gutenprint provided by the Linux distribution. Besides the update to the new release fixes were done to assure that queues with simplified PPDs will not be upgraded to expert PPDs when installing the package. The PPDs of all Gutenprint queues will be replaced by their counterparts of Gutenprint 5.2.2. In printer setup tools choose the OpenPrinting driver by selecting the PPD/driver entry which mentions 'OpenPrinting'. Note that the package does not include the plug-in for the GIMP. Or, you may visit our home page at. Note that as of Gutenprint 5.2, OS X 10.2 is no longer supported. Changes from 5.2.0-beta4 1) cups-genppdupdate now preserves the language of the original PPD file, even if the PPD file is being converted to a globalized PPD file. This enables use of cups-genppdupdate -loriginal to restore the previous language of the PPD file.
Note that cups-genppdupdate -l changes the stored language of the PPD file. 2) The CUPS driver correctly prints page sizes larger than letter on PCL printers (this was broken in 5.2.0-beta4 only). 3) The CD position on the R1900 has been corrected.
4) Printing on the Epson Stylus DX8400/DX8450 has been corrected (the CX8400 was corrected in the previous release). Previously, these printers fed paper endlessly without printing. 5) The user manual has been updated. 6) Color and tonal correctness at low and medium resolutions has been fixed on many Epson Stylus multi-function devices, including Stylus CX3500, Stylus CX3600, Stylus CX3650, Stylus CX5100, Stylus CX4200, Stylus CX4500, Stylus CX4600, Stylus CX4700, Stylus CX4800, Stylus CX4900, Stylus CX5000, Stylus CX5000F, Stylus CX5700, Stylus CX5800, Stylus CX6000, Stylus CX7000F, Stylus CX7800, Stylus CX8300, Stylus CX8400, Stylus CX9400, Stylus DX4200, Stylus DX4250, Stylus DX4800, Stylus DX7000F, Stylus DX8400, Stylus DX8450, PX A650 This issue affected printing at 720 DPI and below. This issue was fixed for the Stylus CX7400, Stylus DX7400, and Stylus DX7450 in Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta4, but not on other printers at that time. Since then, we have determined that the same fix is needed on these printers. Output will be quite grainy at these resolutions, but colors will be correct.

Project lead for Gutenprint - 'Linux doesn't dictate how I work, I dictate how Linux works.' -Eric Crampton. A Mac OS X installer for Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta4 is now available. This release is a Universal Binary and contains all the bug fixes, additional features, and support for additional printers detailed in the Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta4 announcement.
The most noteworthy items for Mac OS X users are: 1. Gutenprint 5.2 no longer supports Macintosh OS X 10.2; it now requires 10.3 (Panther) or higher. This is due to a new library requirement (for the iconv library) that is not present in 10.2. Included in this release is a work around for certain applications (most notably Microsoft Office) that did not print correctly on printers capable of high resolution, due to inability to handle the specified resolutions. PPD files are now globalized. They include, by default, all localizations in a single file. The translations will only appear for Mac OS X 10.5.
An updated uninstaller (v1.2.3) is also included. The uninstaller has also been released as a separate download. The updated uninstaller accommodates the Gutenprint 5.2.x versioning. A bug that would not remove certain Gutenprint 5.0.0-beta2 installations has been fixed. Matt Broughton Only relatives are absolute. Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta4 is the last planned beta release of Gutenprint 5.2.
We expect to release a release candidate around September 15 and the 5.2 stable release, which will be named 5.2.1, around October 1. Welcome to Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta4! Please read these release notes carefully. Gutenprint is a suite of printer drivers that may be used with most common UNIX print spooling systems, including CUPS, lpr, LPRng, or others. These drivers provide high quality printing for UNIX, Linux, and Macintosh OS X (10.3 and above) systems. Gutenprint includes CUPS and Foomatic drivers, and an enhanced Print plug-in for GIMP that replaces the print plug-in packaged with the GIMP distribution. Gutenprint 5.2 no longer supports Macintosh OS X 10.2.
Gutenprint currently supports over 1300 printer models. Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta4 is the final planned beta release of Gutenprint 5.2. NOTE TO PACKAGERS: Please read the file README.package for issues that are of interest to distributors and packagers of Gutenprint.
It is not necessary for end users of Gutenprint to read this file. CHANGES FROM GUTENPRINT 5.2.0-BETA3: 1) Gutenprint 5.2 no longer supports Macintosh OS X 10.2; it now requires 10.3 (Panther) or higher. This is due to a new library requirement (for the iconv library) that is not present in 10.2. 2) New printers supported in this release: - Epson inkjet printers: B-300 B-308 B-500DN B-508DN Offirio PX-B300 Offirio PX-B500 Stylus CX5500 Stylus Photo R1900 (preliminary, further tuning may be performed) Stylus Pro 7800 (experimental) Stylus Pro 7880 (experimental) Stylus Pro 9800 (experimental) Stylus Pro 9880 (experimental) Stylus Pro 11880 (experimental) 3) The CUPS driver will no longer attempt to find a matching predefined page size when a custom page size is passed in.
This yields more accurate printing sizes for custom paper sizes. In addition, it avoids a problem with unnecessary margins being imposed when the paper size is approximately 4.7x6.8' (120x173 mm) due to a specific defined page size with those dimensions and tear-off borders. The Foomatic/IJS driver has been partially fixed; it will only attempt to find a precise match. We are investigating whether it is possible to completely fix this driver.
4) PPD files generated by cups-genppd and the CUPS driver interface (gutenprint.5.2) now include, by default, all localizations in a single file. This is referred to as 'globalized PPD files'. This functionality is supported by CUPS 1.2 and higher. Single-language PPD files are still generated on request, or if CUPS 1.1 is in use. Cups-genppdupdate will normally upgrade all PPD files to globalized ones if CUPS 1.2 or higher is in use or if pregenerated PPD files are used, but will otherwise generate single-language files. This behavior can be controlled as follows: - If -l is passed to cups-genppdupdate, it will be honored no matter what release of Gutenprint is in use.
This may be used if applications have issues with globalized PPD files. We would like reports of any such applications. The list of languages accepted is as follows: C English (US) cs Czech da Danish de German el Greek enGB English (UK) es Spanish fr French hu Hungarian ja Japanese nb Norwegian nl Dutch pl Polish pt Portuguese sk Slovak sv Swedish zhTW Simplified Chinese - If -loriginal is passed, the original language of the PPD file will be honored. If no -l option is passed, the original language will be honored if -r5.0 or -r5.1 is passed (i. If cups-genppdupdate is used to downgrade to an older version of Gutenprint), or if CUPS 1.1 is in used. A new configure option -enable-globalized-cups-ppds (or if not desired, -disable-globalized-cups-ppds) has been added to enable or disable pre-generating globalized PPD files. This option is only used if -enable-cups-ppds is set.
It defaults to 'yes' if CUPS 1.2 or above is in use or 'no' if CUPS 1.1 is in use. 5) The CUPS driver is now localized using built-in code, hopefully eliminating problems with PPD files not always being translated properly. 6) Progress and error messages produced by the CUPS raster driver are now localized. 7) The data in the Epson driver that was not converted to external data files in Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta3 has now been converted to external data files in XML format.
While this should yield no user-visible change, these changes are extensive. Please report any issues. 8) The CUPS driver now provides an Output Order option, where appropriate, in all cases. This worked prior to 5.2.0-beta3 and was broken in that release only.
9) The Danish and Dutch translations have been updated. 10) Borderless support has been added to the Epson Stylus Pro 7600/9600 and the margins have been corrected.
11) Quality presets have been added to the PCL (HP printers and laser printers). 12) Certain legacy applications (most notably Microsoft Office) did not print correctly on printers capable of high resolution, due to inability to handle the specified resolutions. This release works around that issue by not advertising very high resolutions in a way that these applications will fail on. 13) Print quality has been improved on Epson PictureMate printers with 4-color inks. 14) Print quality has been improved on the Epson B-300 and related printers.
15) Print quality has been improved in borderless mode on a large number of Epson photo-oriented inkjet printers. The specific issue is that print faded near the bottom of the page when using borderless mode. 16) Printing has been corrected in borderless mode on the Epson Stylus C110 and C120 printers. The specific issue is that printing near the bottom of the page was compressed vertically. This problem is related to, but not identical to, the previous issue.
17) Print quality has been improved at very high resolutions (resolution settings of 2880x2880 and 5760x2880 DPI, or quality settings of Ultra Photo or Best when high quality photo papers are in use) on a large number of Epson photo-oriented inkjet printers. The specific issue is that print showed fine lines (without actually fading) near the bottom of the page.
This issue was present in both borderless and non-borderless printing. 18) The GIMP plugin now offers additional options for certain printers. 19) Color Correction is now shown on the basic output adjustment menu rather than the advanced menu.
20) Epson printers will now correctly handle color output if quadtone inks are in use by printing in grayscale even though color is specified. 21) The Epson Stylus Photo R800 now works properly. It was broken in 5.2.0-beta2 and would not print at all.
22) The Epson Stylus CX8300 and CX8400 now print correctly, although the colors may be retuned before final release. 23) Additional resolutions of 360 DPI Enhanced, 720x360 DPI Enhanced, and 720 DPI High Quality have been added for the Epson Stylus C110 and C120 to reduce banding at the expense of some output performance. These offer improvements primarily for grayscale output. 24) A problem whereby the CUPS driver could consume excessive amounts of CPU and generate no output with Epson PictureMate and E-series compact photo printers has been fixed. 25) The Epson Stylus CX7400, DX7400, and DX7450 now print correctly at all resolutions.
Previously, printing at 720x360 DPI or below was incorrect. Output will be rather grainy. 26) The PostScript driver now correctly handles certain PPD files that were not correctly handled in recent releases. 27) The PostScript driver now provides default page sizes of Letter, A4, and Custom in the event that no PPD file is provided. A Mac OS X installer for Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta3 is now available. This release is a Universal Binary and contains all the bug fixes, additional features, and support for additional printers detailed in the Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta3 announcement.
Macintosh users of OS X 10.4.x and later may notice a slightly different color output beginning with this release. All printer PPDs now specify the use of the sRGB and the Generic CMYK color profiles rather than having the system use default color profiles. Also included in this release is an updated 'Gutenprint Utility for EPSON Inkjet Printers' and the Mac OS X uninstaller.
The 'Gutenprint Utility for EPSON Inkjet Printers' is a text based interface to the command line escputil. Mac OS X users can now simply double click on this wrapper shell script and be lead through the process of running a nozzle check, cleaning the heads, and aligning the heads for those EPSON printers supported by the Gutenprint drivers.
Matt Broughton Only relatives are absolute. Welcome to Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta3! Please read these release notes carefully. Gutenprint is a suite of printer drivers that may be used with most common UNIX print spooling systems, including CUPS, lpr, LPRng, or others.
These drivers provide high quality printing for UNIX, Linux, and Macintosh OS X (10.2 and above) systems. Gutenprint includes CUPS and Foomatic drivers, and an enhanced Print plug-in for GIMP that replaces the print plug-in packaged with the GIMP distribution. Gutenprint currently supports over 1300 printer models. Gutenprint 5.2.0-beta3 is the third beta release of Gutenprint 5.2. NOTE TO PACKAGERS: This is a beta release of the forthcoming 5.2 stable release. As of 5.2 and until further notice, Gutenprint will no longer deliver separate 'development' and 'stable' release series.
The point release will be advanced between beta/RC releases and stable releases. The first stable release of 5.2 will be numbered 5.2.1; the betas and release candidates will be numbered 5.2.0-betaN or 5.2.0-rcN. Any betas for the next stable release will be numbered 5.2.2-betaN; the next stable release will be numbered 5.2.3 (if there are beta or release candidate builds) or 5.2.2 (if there are not). This ensures that the highest numbered release is always the most current, and that there will be no confusion between beta releases and stable releases. Our experience with 5.0 was that many users continued to use beta releases of 5.2 even after 5.2.0 was released, and worse, in some cases referred to 5.2 beta releases as '5.2.0'.
We believe that the numbering scheme described above will avoid that problem. Find links to the packages and to instructions on the following pages: The printer lists on these pages are also updated to the state of the appropriate driver version. With these packages you can easily install the newest Gutenprint, without needing to compile. So you can easily try out a new Gutenprint version, and stay with it it if it improves your printing. Note also that these packages do not contain the plug-in for the GIMP and also not the IJS driver.
Please report your experience with these packages here, Thanks. Till - - This SF.net email is sponsored by the 2008 JavaOne(SM) Conference Don't miss this year's exciting event. There's still time to save $100. Use priority code J8TL2D2.
